Breeders’ Assistance Program

CFA has developed a program for owners of catteries who find themselves overwhelmed for various reasons.

The program aims to help and support breeders, who find themselves in an out-of-control situation, by making assistance available through other breeders. Help and support will be provided upon request. Reasons for a request for help include:

  • Number of cats are beyond care capacity
  • New legislation in the area affects the number of cats
  • Illness
  • Disability, either temporary or permanent
  • Loss of home or housing
  • Unforeseen change in personal family situation
  • Temporary financial hardship
  • Death, without provision for the animals
  • Acts of nature
  • Normal retirement

Learn more about the program in this article from the October 2017 issue of CatTalk.

Visit the Breeder’s Assistance Program website for more details on the program.

The Breeder Assistance Program is able to help with advice, food, physical assistance, and placement of cats, if requested. IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN ANY SITUATION WHERE HELP IS NEEDED, please email cfabreederassistance@gmail.com. All emails received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

CFA Breed Rescue Program

The Breed Rescue Program supports the rescue efforts of CFA. With the help of CFA member clubs and breed councils, we endeavor to ensure the safety of our recognized breeds, particularly those at risk of euthanasia in our community shelters, and to aid the rescue community at large for the benefit of all cats.

The new CFA Breed Rescue program is one that works well in the Regions because it is based on a support system made up of breeders. We realize that not all individuals have the time and space to do this kind of community service. For those of you who can help, there are many ways to serve including: pulling, grooming, fostering, vetting and on to placement. Like the Breeders Assistance Program of breeders helping breeders, we are breeders helping cats in situations of need all across the country.

For breeders who would like information or assistance from our program, email cfabreedrescue@gmail.com. All emails received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is a project that started in the CFA Midwest Region because, as they moved forward with the Breeder Assistance Program, they discovered a need for pet food. Some people had lost their jobs and could no longer afford sufficient food; others had emergencies, such as a fire. The Food Pantry was developed to fulfill this need.

Food, Litter etc. will be provided per number of cats/kittens in your care, this will be determined with you and your Breeders Assist (BAP) Coordinator. Then you can select from Chewy.com your brand(s) used with your monthly budget amount allocated by BAP. You email your quantity and selection(s) back to your Breeders Assist Coordinator to submit to Food Pantry. Your Selections are then ordered and paid by our Food Pantry Coordinator, copy of order emailed to you, and shipped out by Chewy to your home monthly for the time period approved, usually up to 3 months.
