What TV Shows Do YOUR Cats Watch?

December 18, 2025

It has been observed that pets and people who have long lived together come to reflect/resemble each other. We at Cat Talk know this is true, because when we invited readers (e.g., cat staff) to tell us what their cats preferred on TV, we discovered cats that chose their shows with all the variety exhibited by their servants:  Some were intellectuals into professional ambition; some lolled around in pure frivolity; some could not resist action, adventure, or animal features. (So far, none were into romance, comedy, or history, but that may be corrected in future issues.)

You may even recognize your own cat’s choices in the following revelations.

The featured image for this article shows Becky Mullen’s Korat enthusiastically interacting with an apple on her TV. She notes that “My cats watch along when I’m watching something action-adventure. The only other thing they like is wildlife.”

One of my cats was very disappointed to retire at age seven after her second PR NW and GPD. Giving her a try as a Pet Me cat just created further behavioral issues aimed at the two cats that I am currently showing.

This ambitious girl is looking to trade one expensive and rewarding hobby for another, apparently dreaming of becoming an equestrian cat.  She is mesmerized by horse videos – horses in the wild as well as horses competing in various events (dressage, show jumping). My other cats do not share this appreciation of horses.

I should probably try to bring her back down to reality and find Mr. Ed or My Little Pony, but it’s uncanny that her breeder was an accomplished equestrian. The love of horses is inescapably in her lines.

I usually leave a sports game, or nature show on the TV for my cats.  They love to chase after footballs, golf balls, etc., and the nature shows sometimes have them chittering at the screen.

If Liam had a choice of what to watch, it would definitely be nature programs. He loves watching animals, especially birds, and has been known to be hypnotized by the PBS program Nature for 20 minutes.

I have had several cats interested in the Lion King and also Animal Kingdom shows.  They get particularly excited with birds and squirrels, and have been known to circle around behind TV trying to find these chirping, flitting creatures

My Ocicats love to watch SuperKitties, as Bitsy, Ginny, Buddy and Sparks use their special cat powers to solve crimes.

Check out Cat TV on YouTube. My cats like it so much that we created our own little Oasis outside the back door. It is a solid pane of glass for the birds and squirrels to visit, providing my cats with their very own real-life Cat TV!

No, my cats aren’t spoiled …
