In Memoriam – Jean Grimm

Retired CFA Allbreed Judge Jean Grimm passed away in her sleep May 29, 2025 at the age of 93 in San Antonio, TX.

Jeanne Grimm entered the CFA judging program in 1982 and retired in 2014.  What many don’t know was that Jean was previously an Air Force officer’s wife. She travelled extensively and lived overseas, serving in medical capacities as well as hosting many military functions as the base commander’s wife. Her cattery was Furrytails.

She began in the cat fancy breeding Himalayans,  then worked tirelessly on getting the Scottish Folds recognized on CFA.  Her heart kitty was Scottish Fold GC, NW, Furrytails Elora Danan, CFA’s 20th Best Cat in the 1990-91 season. She was extremely active in Scottish Fold rescue. She also wrote the chapter on Scottish Folds for the CFA Complete Cat book authored by Mordecai Siegal.

Jean served as regional director for Region 2 and as a CFA board member. I believe she was a founding member of The Perthshire Clan Cat Club which is still an active club today.

Jean was born in Texas and eventually returned there as her health began to fail. I think what many of us noted as exceptional in her judging were her handling techniques – so gentle and respectful with the ability to calm and encourage the very anxious ones.  Jean also had a very keen wit in the judging ring and told great stories that entertained both the exhibitors and spectators.
