Judging rings were set up in an L-shape with pipe and drape divisions allowing spectators to see the judges at work, yet helping to keep the crowds at a reasonable distance so that the judges could properly do their job.

This eagerly-anticipated show has been happening for more than 25 years near San Diego, California, and many people eagerly anticipate announcements for the date of the show.

From the more than 28,000 spectators who come to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, to the 251 pedigreed cats and companion animals entered from all over the world, to the multitude of vendors selling cat trees, jewelry, carriers, and almost anything else you can imagine for your furry feline friends and for humans – this marquee event is one not to miss. This year, January 25-26 was the magical weekend: The judges were dressed in their finest sparkles and tuxes, and the drama was heart-pounding as their finals were announced and their top 15 cats in championship and premiership and top 10 in the kitten and household pet classes were presented. As the judges each announced their “Best in Show,” the crowds held their collective breaths. The applause was thundering, and it was a big plus that the judges had microphones so the crowds could hear them.

An education ring featured various breeds, with a CFA judge explaining not only the traits of the particular breeds, but also their personalities. There were also several rescue and shelter organizations at the show with their darling cats and kittens hoping for adoption, many of which found homes over the course of this two-day show.
Exhibitors and spectators did not go hungry, with food trucks outside offering a yummy array of tasty temptations, including gyros sandwiches, falafel burgers, garlic-battered artichoke skewers, along with the usual hot dogs, hamburgers, and corn dogs.

This event always has something for everyone: just ask any of the kids taking it all in, their faces painted like cats. A weekend cat show is always fun, but this particular event is one to be sure to include on your list of things to do near the end of January 2026 … and beyond!

The show coincided with the beginning of the Lunar (Chinese) New Year. Judges and exhibitors joined in the fun of posing with CNY and other props.
