G is for:

Gestation is the length of the pregnancy for a female cat. While generally 65 days, it can vary between 52 and 74 days from mating (when the kittens are conceived). The length of pregnancy can vary from cat to cat, and is often longer for those carrying more kittens.

Gingivitis is the most common type of gum disease in cats, and is more often found in adult and elderly cats. The cat’s gums will show swelling and redness. Common symptoms include frequent drooling, inability to eat or drink, sitting helplessly before food or drink, eating with one side of the mouth, crying or yowling during mealtimes, and unexplained weight loss.

Gastritis is defined as inflammation of the lining of the stomach. This may occur as a short episode (acute) or of longer duration (chronic). The most common symptoms are sudden vomiting and decreased appetite (anorexia). Other symptoms may include dehydration, lethargy or depression, increased thirst, blood in the vomit or feces, and abdominal pain. Acute gastritis typically lasts less than 24 hours.

Glaucoma is a condition in which the watery fluid (aqueous humor) contained in the front part of the eye (just behind the lens) is unable to drain normally. The resulting accumulation of this fluid puts pressure on the optic nerve, which leads from the eye to the brain. Nerve damage caused by this pressure prevents normal vision, and if the condition progresses without treatment, it is  likely to result in partial or total blindness. Glaucoma may affect one or both eyes, depending on the type of glaucoma present.
