Persian and Exotic Rank #1 and #2 For the Third Straight Year...  and the Persian holds the Top Spot For Over 30 Years!

Busy cat owners who like the look of a Persian, but don’t have time for daily grooming sessions, have made the Exotic second only to the Persian as the most popular cat breed according to the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) registration statistics.

Fans of the Persian understand why the Persian has been number one for so long. Their long flowing coat, coupled with a sweet, gentle, personality allows Persians to blend into most households once they are secure in their new environment.

The Exotic is bred to meet the Persian standard in every way with one very special exception: the coat. The thick, plush, short coat gives the Exotic a soft, rounded, teddy bear look.

The British Shorthair and Devon Rex have once again broken into the list of the top ten most popular breeds, replacing the Cornish Rex and Birman, who have been in the top ten a number of times over the past ten years.

This year, the British Shorthair is the top shorthair breed for the first time. The Brits are renowned for their calm demeanor, easy going nature and intelligence. The elf-like Devon Rex, with its pixie like face, big inquisitive eyes, large ears and short slightly upturned nose, makes a most likable pet.
